The 2022 Holiday Skincare Guide Is Here!

The 2022 Holiday Skincare Guide Is Here!

The holidays can be a very busy time for us all. Between get-togethers with family and friends, seasonal travel, entertaining out-of-town guests, and braving the crowds to do holiday shopping, you can easily end up losing track of time and falling behind on your skincare.

Even if you are short on time, you can stay on top of your holiday skincare routine to maintain clean, nourished, and protected skin. The following skincare guide will focus on the best ways to get and keep glowing skin throughout the holiday season, whether you are staying at home or on the go!

Four Easy Steps

Step 1: Cleanse Away Debris

Cleansing is the first step, and arguably the most important step of a proper skincare routine. The last thing you want to do is leave your skin covered in dirt, dust, and other impurities longer than absolutely necessary.

Even if you spend most of your time indoors, your skin is still getting ravaged by a variety of particulates that clog pores and build-up in creases and smile lines around your face leading to acne breakouts and a poor complexion.

Thoroughly cleansing your face with a cleanser that is made for your skin type can help remove these particulates, hydrate your skin, and boost your overall complexion as well. If you aren’t sure what skin type you have, or would like to know more about which cleansers are best for your specific skin type, be sure to visit our Skin Quiz page!

CLEANSING QUICK TIP: Cleansing your face on a regular basis is great, but don’t overdo it! Most dermatologists recommend cleansing in the morning and evening at most. If your busy schedule only allows time for one cleansing per day, it’s better to do it in the evening before bed to remove impurities picked up during your busy day.

When selecting a cleanser for use throughout the holiday seasons, we stand behind our ORMEDIC balancing facial cleanser. Not only can it be a great way to cleanse away dirt and debris from your skin, but it also makes a wonderful stocking stuffer! This cleanser is great for ridding your skin of surface contaminants as well as leaving your skin hydrated, soft, and clean.

Step 2: Reduce Aging with a Serum

When it comes to step two of any skincare routine, choosing the right serum is important. A serum is one of the stronger and most potent skin care products you can consider. It is made to target a variety of skin issues including wrinkles, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, dryness, and more.

Once you have thoroughly cleansed your skin, a serum is your next step. If you cleanse in the morning, a serum will go on right afterwards. It will be used to lock in moisture from the cleansing, while also adding a protective layer of extra hydration to dry skin, as well as reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Serums can be used in the morning and in the evening, depending on your unique needs. After your skin is cleansed, apply your chosen serum and allow it to soak into the skin. From here, you can continue with your normal routine such as adding eye creams or sunscreen.

SERUM QUICK TIP: It’s not uncommon to suffer from excessively dry skin as the temperatures start to get cooler. Dehydrated skin can lead to the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles and fine lines, as well as flaking and itchiness. Many serums focus on boosting your skin’s hydration, as well as adding antioxidants and vitamins useful for healthy skin.

If you are specifically in search of a serum that can quench your skin’s thirst, consider layering on our AGELESS total pure hyaluronic filler. It not only adds a burst of hydration to help plump up your skin, but also provides a number of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to provide balance to your complexion, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and leave your skin feeling healthier.

If you’re unsure of which serum might be best for your skin type, or even if you really need a serum, visit our Serums 101 page. It not only helps you determine which serum is best for you, but will walk you through the many benefits a serum can provide your skin.

Step 3: Protect and Repair

Even if your cleanser and your serum provide a boost of hydration to your skin, the third step of your skincare routine should definitely be adding a moisturizer. These essential products help lock in the hydration from your cleanser and serum, while also adding a splash of nourishing hydration themselves.

Well hydrated skin not only feels better, it looks better too. Adding a healthy and rich plumpness around your lips, eyes, and cheeks which also helps to reinforce your skin’s natural barrier. When applying a moisturizer during the day, try to find one with the addition of a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

When applying a moisturizer in the evening, sunscreen won’t be needed. Instead, look for a reparative moisturizer specifically for evening use such as our AGELESS total repair crème. It provides a blend of antioxidants and plant stem cells to protect against free radical damage and is a lightweight moisturizer perfect for applying before bed.

Step 4: Soften and Smooth

While this step is optional, it is normally recommended if you plan on layering makeup. After your moisturizer or sunscreen, this is where you would add a smoothing primer along with your favorite foundation.

If you choose to take a more natural approach, layering on a primer and forgoing the foundation can be a great way to create a natural luminosity on your skin, while also creating a blurring effect to conceal the few blemishes you may have here and there.

Before the Holidays

We all know that prevention is better than cure, and your pre-holiday skincare preparation is no different. If you know you will be traveling, or just incredibly busy in your own immediate location, it’s important that you try to keep up a consistent skincare routine.

A week before the holiday hustle picks up, consider adding antioxidant-heavy products to your skincare routine. Our VITAL C hydrating antioxidant A C E serum is a great way to boost your skin with a range of vitamins, amino acids, and botanical extracts to help fight against environmental damage, signs of aging, or dryness.

Ensuring your skin is well hydrated in advance is extremely important if you will be flying long distances as well. The recycled air inside the cabin can be very dry and damaging to your skin. Instead of dealing with the after effects of dry air for a several-hour long flight, pre-hydrate your skin with our Hydrating Self-Care Trio.

It not only provides our best selling serum and a hydrating gel sheet mask, but also includes a soothing lip complex to provide a healthy plumpness to your pout. When you need a rapid burst of hydration before a long trip, our hydrating self-care trio is the answer!

During the Holidays

Once the holiday’s start to pick up, you may find yourself struggling to stay on top of your skincare routine. One of the biggest risk factors to the health of your skin is the sun. Not only can UV rays create signs of premature aging, but overexposure or sunburn can lead to hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and other blemishes.

After you’re on the go, whether you are staying indoors near a computer screen or venture outdoors into the sun, it’s important to use sunscreen as much as possible. We recommend an SPF of 30+ for the best level of protection such as our PREVENTION+ daily tinted moisturizer.

Applying and reapplying sunscreen throughout the day can also lead to congestion of your pores, which in turn can lead to acne breakouts. In order to avoid this, make sure you cleanse and de-clog your pores in the evening before turning into bed.

After cleansing, applying a small amount of a hydrating serum can do wonders as you sleep. Dry skin after a thorough cleansing has been stripped of its natural oils, which can leave your pores open and a way for bacteria to get in. Consider adding a peptide complex serum such as the MAX serum in the evening as well.

After the Holidays

After the hustle and bustle of family gatherings is done, it’s important that you keep replenishing your skin regularly with a daily antioxidant serum. We love the restorative effect our CLEAR CELL restoring serum provides. It includes a healthy amount of botanical extracts, peptides, and antioxidants to provide targeted hydration, brightness, and smoothness to your post-holiday skin.
