4 Skincare Tips for the Fourth of July
Fourth of July weekend is one of the most fun weekends of the year. There’s so much cause for celebration and festive energy is in the air. If you’re planning on going to parties (beach! BBQ!) or taking a quick trip somewhere (road trip to national parks!), here’s your friendly reminder to make sure you’re still taking care of your skin. Drinking alcohol will take a toll on hydration. Going to the beach means being diligent about SPF. Getting hot and sweaty can cause breakouts. There’s a lot to worry about, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend your days off all anxious and stressed about your skin. Here are 4 great Fourth of July skincare tips to incorporate into your routine for the long weekend, and still have the time of your life!
Cleanse
Begin your day with a nice cleanse. This will make you feel freshened up and allow other products you use to penetrate nicely into your skin. During your 4th of July weekend celebrations, make sure to cleanse both morning and night.
Cleansing in the morning is important because during sleep, oils from your hair can pass onto your skin. Likewise, cleansing before bed is a good idea because it will remove the last remaining remnants of oil, debris, makeup, SPF, etcetera. Think of your face as a canvas that you want to make sure is clean and perfect before the application of serums, creams, and other skincare products.
Hydrate
Hydration is always key, and it’s just as important at the height of summer as any other time. In fact, it might be more important to be diligent about it during the hotter months because sometimes we convince ourselves we can skip the moisturizer in summer. We recommend using a light, gel-based moisturizer so it doesn’t feel too heavy on your skin. As you go about your 4th of July activities, you will inevitably sweat and get overheated. You can help reduce this by using a facial mist like the Vital C Hydrating Facial Mist. Spritz it onto your hot skin throughout the day to hydrate and refresh yourself. This mist contains vitamin C as a key ingredient. Vitamin C is a great antioxidant that will also protect your skin from sun damage and free radical damage.[1]
Protect
Although protecting skin is the third tip in this post, it is actually the single most important thing you can do. If you choose to skip cleansing and hydration for whatever reason, at least make sure you use sun protection. The 4th of July is not only usually a very hot day in the northern hemisphere, it is also a day often spent outdoors. This means that throughout the day, you are going to be outside with the sun’s rays directly on your delicate skin. The least you can do is protect it diligently to prevent sunburn and photo damage. Use the Prevention+ Daily Ultimate Protection Moisturizer SPF 50 throughout the day (reapply every two hours or more often if you happen to sweat it off) to keep skin safe. This is a sheer sunblock with moisturizing ingredients that will do double duty as both protection and hydration.
Remove
After spending the entire day enjoying the festivities, make sure you thoroughly remove all of your makeup and SPF at night. This goes beyond simply cleansing. You might want to use a cleansing balm or oil to remove your makeup first, then follow up with your regular cleanser to remove any lingering stitch of makeup and SPF. Double cleansing is recommended for days when you use heavy makeup, apply SPF often, and get a little sweaty or grimy.
